  • What is it?

    ERP is a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and is considered the gold standard treatment for both obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and certain anxiety disorders.

  • How does it work?

    The idea is simple but powerful: rather than avoiding the thoughts and fears, or situations that create anxiety, ERP helps you to gradually face them (exposure) in a supported, empowering way - while resisting the urge to use old coping behaviors.

    Over time, your brain learns tolerance skills, as well as confidence to handle anxiety without relying on those old behaviors. Plus, anxiety goes down!

  • What will our sessions be like?

    First, we will work together to understand your unique needs, and make sure that you have a good knowledge base of what will be involved in treatment. Then, we will make a plan together. Collaboration is the key here - we will develop a plan for gradually facing thoughts, feelings, and situations that usually trigger anxiety. Next, we will celebrate the successes and progress.

    We will also focus our attention on your values and individual goals - what has anxiety or OCD been holding you back from? We will work together to make sure that our exposures move you towards those values/goals.

  • What if I am afraid?

    I am your biggest cheerleader, and will often face your fears right alongside of you. I will never ask you to engage in an exposure that I myself would not do. We will collaborate and I will empower you to make the final say in what you are willing to face.
