A Practical, Skills-Based Approach to Change

  • What is it?

CBT is a type of talk therapy that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The idea is that while most of us allow our thoughts to lead us, we have the power to change the cycle and live a more realistic, positive life.

  • What can it help with?

CBT has been shown to be helpful for a variety of mental health needs, including anxiety/stress management, depression and mood related issues, and phase of life challenges.

  • What do we do in CBT?

CBT focuses attention on building the foundational skills of identifying unhelpful, biased thoughts, and then eventually challenging and shifting our thought-processes. It is highly skills-focused, often involving practice outside of practice. This is purposeful - we know that practicing not only helps to build skills more quickly, but it also promotes long-term change and benefit.

That being said, you will probably hear me ask a lot of questions like “What message did that send to you?”, “What did you brain say about that?”, “What thought did you have?”

  • What if I can't figure out my thoughts?

I want you to know that this is completely normal and common! Many people have difficulty identifying thoughts and/or feelings when starting CBT. We are not wired to be attentive to our thoughts - which is a reason why we find ourselves stuck and at the mercy of our thoughts. We will work together to determine the best strategies for you to feel successful in figuring out your thoughts.
